Description

Keepers Lodge is a gamekeeper's house built in 1845, likely designed by Bryan Browning for the Marquis of Exeter at Burghley House. The building is constructed from squared coursed limestone and features a Collyweston slate roof. It originally had a two-unit plan with an attached game larder, forming an L-shape. The lodge is two storeys high with a main front that has three bays.

The central gablet includes a single-light stair window with a gauged stone head, while a 19th-century casement window is located to the right on the ground floor, also under a similar stone head. A large gabled porch extends forward to the left, featuring a plank door set beneath an open verandah supported by a turned wooden pillar and seats. The apex of the gable has half-timbered decoration and a wooden bargeboard with quatrefoil design.

Brick stacks at the ends and sides have twin flues connected by an arch, each topped with open crown finials. The datestone in the central gablet displays the coronet of the Marquis of Exeter above the date. The left gable features 19th-century casement windows, and the elevation to the right has a half-dormer with a similar window. There is a lean-to projection below one window, which is said to have been a bread oven. The rear range, originally the game larder, is now part of the house. The interior has not been inspected.
