Description
South Lodge is a lodge house built in the mid-19th century for the Rockingham Cottage estate. It is constructed of squared coursed ironstone with limestone ashlar dressings and features a Collyweston slate roof. The building has a T-shape plan and is a single storey with an attic. The main front has a two-window range, with a bay to the left that projects forward as a gabled cross wing. There are two- and three-light stone mullion windows, a half dormer to the right, and a canted stone bay to the left. The gable parapets are made of ashlar and topped with ball finials, and there are ashlar stacks with octagonal flues at the ridge and end. The left elevation includes a stone gabled porch, which has a plaque to the left displaying the arms of the Watson family. The rear elevation is similar to the front.
