Description
Blackthorne Lodge is a farmhouse dating to the mid-to-late 18th century, with alterations in the 19th century. It is constructed of squared coursed limestone with a Collyweston slate roof. Originally built with a two-unit plan, the farmhouse has two storeys and a three-window front, featuring a range of two-light stone mullion windows with hood moulds. A 20th-century central door has a moulded stone surround with a four-centred-arch head. Evidence suggests there were earlier flat stone arches above the window heads. Other external features include a chamfered plinth, rusticated quoins, a raised string course between floors, ashlar gable parapets with kneelers, and truncated ashlar stacks at the ends. A single-storey extension is present at the rear. The interior was not inspected but is noted to contain spine beams with run-out stops and a dog-leg stair. The farmhouse was likely remodelled in the 19th century, incorporating earlier stone mullions and a door surround.
