Description
The Brills is a house located in Weston Turville, originally a farmhouse and the Black Horse Inn. It dates back to the 15th century, with alterations made in the 16th and 17th centuries, and was restored after a fire in the 1960s. The building is timber framed with rendered and brick infill, all painted white, and features a thatched roof that is hipped at each end, along with three brick stacks. It is two stories high, with a modern door in the center that has a small hood supported by brackets. The ground floor has three 3-light casement windows, while the upper floor has five irregular casements, one of which on the right-hand side is cut into the thatch. Inside, there is exposed timber framing, including the original hall truss and an arch-braced base cruck, which now has a wall infilling it, visible on the first floor. Historically, The Brills was also used as an early Quaker Meeting House.
