Description
Three cottages, forming an L-shaped block, were originally built in the 17th century and extended in the 19th century, with later alterations. The cottages have a timber frame with a colourwashed brick ground floor and brick infill, and chequer brick to the lower part of the left-hand flank wall. The roofs are tiled, replacing what was originally thatch, with a half-hipped roof to the left-hand side. A central brick chimney is present. The cottages are two storeys and an attic. The front facade has two bays of 2-light upper casements, with 20th-century casements and a glazed door to the ground floor. The right-hand bay (number 27) was added in the 19th century, and is constructed of colourwashed brick with a tiled roof that is higher than the older portion. It has a single bay of four-pane wide sash windows. The left-hand flank displays a 17th or 18th century rear wing with a half-hipped gable and a hipped dormer window, featuring 20th-century casements. Inside the left-hand bay, the original rear wall retains a four-light dormer window with ovolo moulded oak mullions. The front room features heavy, chamfered joists. A large inglenook fireplace with a circular oven is present, accessible from number 25A.
