Description
Nos. 76 and 77 are two houses located in Hambleden Village, dating from the mid to late 18th century, with some remains of a 17th-century structure incorporated into them. The buildings are constructed of flint with brick dressings and feature a narrow band-course at the first floor. The left bay has dentil eaves, and the roofs are covered with old tiles, while the gables have been fitted with rebuilt brick chimneys. The central gabled bay includes an external chimney with two rebuilt diagonal shafts. The houses are one storey with an attic and consist of three bays. The windows are irregular barred wooden casements, with the ground floor left windows having segmental heads. The upper windows in the outer bays are located in eaves-line dormers, with the left dormer having a flat roof and the right one being gabled. There is a six-panelled door situated between the left bays, framed by a reeded wooden doorcase and topped with a flat wooden hood. The right bay features a small 20th-century brick projection with a half-glazed door and a three-light metal casement. Inside, there is very slight timber framing in the internal walls, and wooden fireplace lintels with segmentally arched soffits can be found in the left and central areas.
