Description
Scotsgrove House, originally a single house dating to the 18th century, is now divided into three separate units. The house was altered and extended circa 1830, and subsequently further modified around 1920. The main block is of rubblestone, with a cement render on the front and coursed stone to the rear and the west wing (Little Scotsgrove). Stone dressings are present on the main block. The building has old tile roofs.
The house is two storeys high with dormers. The east front, which serves as the entrance, has seven bays. A central porch is built in a Gothic style, featuring an arcade with three pointed arches, groin vaults, and crenellated parapets. All windows are mullioned with Tudor arched heads, and are mostly two-light, except for the right-hand bays which have three-light windows. Three hipped dormers are present over the three right-hand bays. The south or garden front has a gabled right-hand bay with a four-light ground-floor window and a three-light window to the first floor. The remaining four bays display irregularly placed stone-framed windows; a French door is situated on the right, and a modern coped gable appears over the second bay. The west elevation shows areas of 18th-century brickwork used as patching and an upper gable. The west wing features gabled bays at each end and has hipped dormers. The north elevation is colourwashed stone with brick dressings and sash windows.
Inside, there are several fireplaces with Gothic-style moulded stone surrounds.
