Description

Bowles Cottages comprises two dwellings, numbers 1 and 2, dating to the 17th and 18th centuries, situated on the south-east side of Chalfont St Giles. Number 2 is a 17th-century cottage exhibiting red stretchers and grey header bricks, topped with an old tile roof. The roof features a front pitch extended upwards to form gabled ends with two right-angle roofs. The cottage is one and a half storeys high and has two bays, incorporating paired casement windows and a plain door with a bracketed hood. A band course runs along the front. Number 1 is an 18th-century building of three bays and two storeys, with a hipped dormered attic. It is constructed of red brick with an old tile roof and end stacks. It has a band course and flush-framed barred sash windows to the front, with casements in the dormers. The central door features a bracketed hood and a six-panel door. A modern two-storey brick and tile extension is situated at the rear.
