Description
St. John the Evangelist Church, built in 1873 by G E Street, is a parish church located on Two Dells Lane in Ashley Green. The church is constructed from knapped flint with stone dressings and has plain tile roofs. The chancel features four narrow bays with a single lancet set within a blind arcade, and there is a vestry to the south. The nave consists of four bays, showcasing stepped triplets of lancets on the north side and paired lancets in the south aisle. A north porch has a brick infilled timber-framed gable, and a bell-cote is situated between the nave and chancel. The east end displays a stepped triplet of lancets with a hoodmould, while the west end has two lancets and a central buttress, along with a quatrefoil in the gable. The north door features a moulded arch and cap with a shaft.
Inside, the church retains fittings designed by Street, including a low stone chancel screen with a quatrefoil frieze and a pulpit with open tracery. The aisle arcade consists of two orders with moulded caps, and the roof is supported by octagonal crown posts with moulded caps.
