Description
The gates, gate piers, and railings located at the main entrance to Mentmore Park date from around 1852 to 1854 and are likely designed by G.H. Stokes. The structure features double gates flanked by single gates, with railings that curve towards the front. All elements are made of cast iron and are painted in gold and blue, adorned with scroll ornamentation and a frieze displaying alternating spearhead and flame motifs. An elaborate scrolled crest is positioned over the central gates. The gate piers and terminal piers are constructed from ashlar and feature triglyph friezes and moulded cornices. Additionally, the gate piers include shell niches, roundels displaying Rothschild crests, and plinths with raised panels. The outer piers have moulded bases and shafts that incorporate both vertical and horizontal bands.
