Description
Marsh Farmhouse is a farmhouse dated 1689 that has been altered over time. It is constructed from rubblestone with brick dressings, featuring brick gables and a brick rear elevation, topped with plain tile roofs. The building has two storeys plus dormers and consists of five bays, with a stair turret located at the rear of the second bay from the left. There is a mid-18th century wing that projects from the rear of the central bay.
The southeast front includes a central gabled modern porch. The left bay has a brick gable and no windows. On the ground floor, there is a 4-pane sash window and two 2-light leaded casements, while the first floor features a single light casement, two 2-light casements, and a 4-pane sash window on the right. The house has two 2-light gabled dormers. There are stacks located between bays 1 and 2, 3 and 4, and at the east gable.
On the rear elevation, to the east of the stair turret, there is a door with a Gothick fanlight and a cross casement window above. The east bays include a 17th-century door frame on the right, a 3-light leaded casement on the left, and a dormer, with the first-floor windows being blocked. The building features date plaques with the initials 'R.C.E. 1689'.
Inside, the farmhouse has chamfered and stopped spine beams on both the ground and first floors. The stair turret contains a full-height closed string staircase with ball finials and drops to newels, designed in an open well plan with a moulded handrail and turned balusters.
