Description

Numbers 8 (Little House), 10 (Foxglove), and 12 are a group of three cottages that were originally a single house, likely built in the second half of the 16th century, with a 17th-century outshut and later alterations. The structure is timber framed with painted brick infill and painted and rendered brick. It has a plain tile roof featuring three brick chimneys. The building is one and a half storeys high and consists of three bays, with an outshut under a cat-slide roof across most of the front elevation.

The outshut on the left end (number 12) is made of brick and has a 20th-century board door along with a two-light, eight-pane wood-framed window. The central outshut (number 10) is partly timber-framed with brick infill and partly brick, featuring a board door and a three-light window with four-pane casements. The right end outshut (number 8) is also of brick and has a door in the return wall.

On the main range, the right end, adjacent to the outshut, has an offset lateral stack. The first floor reveals some original timber framing, including a wall-post with an arch-brace to the wall-plate and studs. There are three gabled dormers with 20th-century small-pane windows and a chimney positioned between the left-hand dormers. The central ridge stack and a vent are located at the left end. The right return (number 8) has a rendered ground floor with an eight-pane side-sliding sash window on the left and exposed timber framing on the first floor, similar to the front, along with a roof truss. The rear features 20th-century brick lean-tos, a conservatory, and windows. The interior has not been inspected but is noted to contain old timbers.
