Description

Home Farmhouse is a house dating from the late 16th and 17th centuries, altered, and with a small extension dated 1738 at the southwest corner. The original house is timber-framed with brick infill, partially whitewashed, with the south cross wing partly rebuilt in brick. Sections of the north and west sides have a chamfered stone plinth, likely re-used. The house has old tile roofs, the north wing’s roof extending over an outshot to the west and a 19th-century extension to the east. The south wing has brick chimneys, one external to the west; the north gable has a large chimney with grouped shafts of thin brick and 'V' pilasters. The south wing is two storeys high, while the main part of the house is two storeys and has an attic. The south wing has paired leaded casements to the first-floor gable ends, a 20th-century door to the east, and the front has 20th-century wooden casements to the ground floor, with one older paired barred wooden casement above. The 1738 extension is constructed of red and vitreous brick with an old tile roof and a brick chimney to the left. It is one storey and an attic high, with one bay. It features a 20th-century paired casement to the left of a 20th-century door, a gabled dormer with an older paired barred wooden casement and a date stone, and a remaining moulded brick bracket on its left side. Inside the south wing, there is a stop-chamfered spine beam, one end resting on a small moulded bracket, and a similar cambered lintel above the fireplace.
