Description
New Mills is an 1836 flour mill constructed of stock brick with a low pitch slate roof. The building has four storeys and an attic, featuring a range of six windows that is extended to seven in a matching style at the east end. The windows have cambered heads made of gauged brick and are fitted with renewed small pane windows. There are two doors on the ground floor, and the ground floor windows have later red brick infill beneath the sills. At the roof level, there are two large projecting weatherboarded sack hoists that have been renewed. A plaque on the building reads, "Built 1836 J Penn Engineer J Shoppee Builder." The north side of the mill is similar in appearance but has been altered, with blocked windows and one bay of loading doors on each floor. There are modern extensions on both the left and right sides that are not of interest.
