Description

This is a 17th-century cottage located on Bridge Road in Ickford. Originally known as Wayside Cottage, it is timber-framed with brick infill and has a thatched roof. The cottage is three bays wide and has one-and-a-half storeys. The south elevation features a door positioned between the two left-hand bays, in front of a stack, reflecting a lobby-entry plan. There are three casement windows and a further glazed door. The main entrance has a gabled porch supported by posts and covered with an old tile roof. Two eaves dormers are present on the left-hand bays. The east gable has a ground-floor casement window and a casement in the gable itself. The north elevation, facing the footpath, also has two eaves dormers. A single-storey brick addition, built in 1978, is located on the left side of the west elevation. This addition has two hipped roofs covered with old tiles and features a door and two-light casement windows. Inside the main house, the timber framing includes straight tie beams and wall plate braces, which have been bricked over. A stack is positioned between the left-hand bays. Some of the brick infill is laid in a herringbone pattern, particularly visible on the north elevation.
