Description

Two houses, Ramblers and The Old School, stand together. Ramblers dates to the 17th century and was remodelled in the early to mid-19th century. The Old School was originally built as a chapel of ease, later serving as a school, and dates to the mid-19th century, with alterations made in the 1970s.

Ramblers is constructed of flint with brick dressings and has dentil eaves, all whitewashed. It has an old tile roof and a chimney of thin brick from the 17th century, with a later stack. The house is two storeys and has an attic, with two bays. It features wooden casements, some with single horizontal glazing bars. The ground floor windows are three-light with segmental bonded heads, while the first-floor windows are two-light. A lower window on the right is original, and the remainder are 20th century replacements. A central gabled porch of whitewashed brick provides access, with a board door. A small, gabled wing from the 18th century extends to the rear, along with attic dormers and a 20th-century extension. The interior of Ramblers reveals timber framing within the cross walls.

The Old School, to the right, is constructed of flint with brick dressings and has a steeply pitched tiled roof. It is now two storeys and has one gabled bay facing the road. The ground floor has a pointed arched doorway with a hoodmould and off-set imposts, along with a 20th-century wooden casement set within a rebuilt wall. The upper storey features a 19th-century pointed brick relieving arch, three small roundels of leaded glass, blocked heads of two lancets, and a small bellcote with a cusped gable. A 20th-century two-light wooden casement has been inserted, alongside small lancets with Caernarvon arches to the sides.
