Description
The Old Crown House and Isabel Cottage are two houses originally built in the 15th to 16th centuries, with alterations made in the 17th century and later. The exterior is constructed from flint and brick, featuring dentil eaves, while the front is roughcast and whitewashed. The building has an old tile roof and a central brick chimney with an off-set top. It is one storey high with an attic and consists of four bays, with the left bay being a 19th-century extension. The left bays have 20th-century paired barred wooden casements, while the third bay features a 20th-century bow window and a paired leaded casement above. All upper windows are set within dormer gables. A 20th-century board door is located between the left bays, topped with a flat hood supported by wooden brackets. An early 19th-century gabled extension projects in front of the right bay, made of whitewashed flint and brick with narrow dentil eaves, and includes 20th-century casements and a glazed door on the left side. There are additional extensions to the right. Inside, the right bay contains flanking cruck trusses, with the blades terminating above the collars, and heavy longitudinal floor joists. A stack with a lintel dated 1618 is inserted between the main posts of the central spere truss, which features shaped jowls on the spere posts and retains original purlins.
