Description
Charmandean School is a country house that has been converted into a school. It was built in 1882, as indicated by a plaque and rainwater heads, and designed by Ewan Christian for Abraham John Robarts. The building features crimson brick with terracotta dressings and a tiled roof, showcasing a Neo-Elizabethan style. Notable architectural elements include clusters of tall patterned chimney shafts, mullion and transom windows, and irregularly gabled facades. Some gables are adorned with terracotta panels depicting foliage and heraldry in the Arts and Crafts style, with one panel inscribed "Marjorie and Alice Robarts 1882." The structure has two storeys and an attic. The southeast front features a round oriel window and a projecting square tower with sundials, topped with an ogee lead roof. The rear of the building has a recessed central section with a semi-circular staircase projection. Inside, the style continues with wooden panelling and ribbed plaster ceilings.
