Description
Dancers End House is a house built in the early 18th century. It is constructed of red brick featuring a chequer pattern in vitreous headers and has an old tile roof that is hipped at the southeast corner. The house has three brick chimneys with corbelled heads and two gabled dormers on the south and east slopes. A large square section painted eaves cornice runs along the roofline. The building is two storeys high with an attic above a basement, and it has a moulded plinth and a first-floor band.
The east front has five bays of sash windows that include glazing bars and old glass, with gauged brick flat arches above them. The basement windows feature segmental brick arches with vitreous headers. The central entrance has a door that is framed by an early 20th-century brick porch, which incorporates an early 19th-century six-panel door with a margin glazed fanlight. Inside, the inner door is a modern half-glazed design set in early 19th-century panelled reveals with a reeded architrave surround.
The south front is rendered and also has five bays of sash windows, although the right-hand ones are blocked. The west front features two gables, while the north side has modern additions. Inside, there is a good original staircase with turned, twisted balusters and carved scrolls on the newels of the upper flights, along with later matching gates to the first-floor landing. The attic floor has a balustrade made of splat balusters. Three rooms contain 18th-century bolection moulded fireplaces, and the southeast corner room on the ground floor features early 19th-century panelling and a fluted fireplace surround.
