Description
Dunton Manor House is a late 16th-century house with a U-shaped plan. It was partly encased in brick in the 17th century and altered and extended in the 19th century. The house is constructed of timber framing and brick, with tiled roofs and brick chimneys. The north front has three gables; the outer gables are timber-framed, while the central one is a 19th-century addition with half-timbering. The brickwork below is 19th century, with narrow buttresses and irregular 20th-century leaded casements. A 20th-century gabled porch extension is to the left. The south front has an altered hipped roof and four bays. The outer bays are of 17th-century brick in English bond, with a moulded plinth and first-floor entablature. There are early 19th-century moulded brick eaves and traces of original gables. Windows are set in slight projections and have 20th-century leaded casements. The lower right-hand window has a moulded brick surround with single lugs to the jambs and a restored plain keyblock. Other windows are similar, but altered. The inner bays are of early 19th-century brick in English bond, with moulded plinth and eaves. There are similar three-light casements to the right and two-light casements to the left, overlooking a 20th-century door with a round-arched radiating fanlight and wooden hood. A late 18th-century staircase is located within a wing of the house.
