Description
Barracks Row is a row of cottages that dates back to the 15th century, with alterations and extensions made in the 17th century and early 19th century. The cottages numbered 3 to 7 are timber framed, featuring curved and diagonal braces, with a cruck truss visible in the left gable and whitewashed brick infill. Cottage number 9 is constructed of whitewashed brick. The row has a half-hipped thatch roof and four brick chimneys. Number 9 is two storeys tall, while the others are one and a half storeys, with upper windows set into the thatch. The row consists of six bays. Number 9 has three-light leaded casements with segmental heads, and a similar head on the door. The other cottages feature irregular 20th-century three-light barred wooden casements, with some leaded casements on the ground floor. There are four doors in total, and a lean-to structure is located to the left.
