Description

The Close's 1, 2 and 3 are a group of three cottages, originally a single house. The main structure dates to the early 17th century, with a rear wing largely rebuilt in the 19th century. The building is timber-framed with herringbone brick infill and a plinth of rubble stone, with some areas rendered. The rear wing is of red brick. It has an old tile roof and a prominent central chimney made of thin brick with pilasters. The design is a T-shape. The cottages are two storeys high and have two bays with a central lobby entrance facing southwest. They feature barred wooden casement windows, with three-light windows on the left bay and the first floor right, a single-light window on the ground floor right, and a two-light window in the centre of the first floor. There are board doors in the centre and on the right. A small weatherboard outbuilding with a hipped thatched roof is attached to the left. Inside, the cottages contain stop-chamfered spine beams; the beam in the left room is moulded. A stone fireplace with a four-centred arch and an ornamental overmantel is present in the upper left room.
