Description
This is a former outbuilding, converted into a service cottage, located within Hawridge Court. It dates from the 16th century and has been altered since. The building has a timber frame with a brick ground floor and brick infill, incorporating old narrow bricks. The roof is covered in old tiles. It is two storeys high and now has modern windows. A 19th-century porch, designed in a "gothick" style, is attached to the west wall. The interior has been altered, but retains large floor beams, including a dragon beam in the north-east corner. A substantial chimney stack is situated near the western end. The cottage stands within an ancient moated site alongside an altered 18th-century farmhouse, and may represent a fragment of an earlier house, adapted and possibly moved to its current location, potentially serving as a granary.
