Description
Addington House, now divided into four flats, is a late 17th-century building that underwent significant alterations in 1859-60 and the 20th century. It is constructed of red brick with stone quoins, a plinth moulding, a first-floor band course, and cornice and architrave windows featuring central keyblocks. The building has hipped slate roofs and brick chimneys with square shafts set diagonally.
The south front consists of three bays with barred sash windows and a central panelled door that has a rectangular fanlight, all framed by a rendered architrave surround with a cornice supported by scroll brackets above. The west side has six bays, with the leftmost bay set back and the second and third bays slightly projecting. The right-hand bays are irregular and feature dentilled brick eaves. In the fourth bay, there is a six-panelled door with a rectangular fanlight and a flat cornice hood on elaborately carved scroll brackets, flanked by tall narrow casements. An additional single-storey bay to the right has a pierced parapet, a band course, a similar sash window, and a 20th-century glazed door. There is also a garage to the far right with an attic dormer above. The building is included for its group value.
