Description
Cordwainers is a building that dates from the medieval period, with elements from the 17th and 18th centuries. The left side of the front is from the late 18th century and is two storeys high, constructed of chequered brick with a hipped slate roof that has projecting eaves. The central door has been bricked up, and there are shallow bow windows on each side, each with six panes wide and four panes deep, featuring bowed brick aprons. Above, there is a central sash window on the first floor. Behind this section is a timber-framed and brick bay with a thatched roof.
The right side of the building is from the 17th century, consisting of one storey and an attic, with colourwashed rendering over rubble stone or witchert and a thatched roof. It has a central door with a lean-to tiled porch, and there is a sash window on each side, along with two three-light casements under the thatch. A tiled lean-to is present on the right-hand gable wall, and there is a rubble stone garden wall surrounding the property.
Inside the left-hand rear part, there is one complete cruck truss, with the blades extending up to the apex and a yoke carrying the ridge purlin. The right-hand part features a large central stack with a stair and entrance lobby in front.
