Description

The Church of St Mary Magdalen is a parish church largely dating to the 12th century, with significant additions and alterations in the 19th century and the presence of a Perpendicular tower. The building is constructed of rubble stone with a slate roof. The nave comprises four bays, featuring a Norman arcade separating it from the north aisle. The arcade features semi-circular, chamfered arches with toothed ornament on round piers bearing moulded caps in the eastern bays; the west bay has a pointed transitional arch on a rectangular pier. A restored Norman window and a blocked doorway are located in the north wall. A south aisle, arcade, and porch were added in the 19th century. The chancel and west tower are of Perpendicular style. The chancel contains three good wall monuments dating from the late 17th and early 18th centuries, along with a small, elaborately engraved brass commemorating Erasmus Williams, who died in 1608. A cusped piscina is also present. The church contains 19th-century glass.
