Description
Michaelmas Cottage is a house that likely dates back to the 17th century, with alterations made in the early 19th and 20th centuries. The exterior is rendered and features incised masonry patterns over a timber frame, topped with a plain-tile roof and a brick stack on the left side. The house has a two-unit plan and is two stories high, with a single-window range.
The central entrance consists of a six-panel door, which is accessed by three stone steps and framed by a moulded wood surround and a moulded straight hood supported by shaped brackets. On the ground floor, there are 16-pane sash windows on either side of the door, and another 16-pane sash window on the right side of the first floor, all with moulded wood surrounds. The building also has a rendered plinth and a deep coved plaster eaves cornice.
At the rear, there are 16-pane sash windows on both the ground and first floors, a leaded cross window on the right side of the first floor, and a small two-light dormer window featuring diamond leading. Inside, there is an open fireplace with a chamfered bressumer.
