Description

Melbury Cottage is a house dating from the 17th century, with later alterations. The right side of the building retains timber framing, featuring some close studding, and has been rendered and colourwashed. The front facade has been rebuilt in brick, also rendered and colourwashed. It has an old tile roof and a brick chimney at the far gable on the right side. The house is L-shaped, with a 19th-century bay window projecting at the rear angle. The main range to the front is two storeys and an attic, with two bays. It features 20th-century three-light leaded casement windows with segmental heads on the upper floor. The right gable has an old three-light casement window with diamond leading to the first floor, a single 20th-century leaded light in the attic, and a 20th-century door to the right. A lower two-storey bay, at a right angle to the rear, has old five-light diamond-leaded casement windows to the first floor, and a small canted bay window with flanking single lights and 20th-century leaded glazing below. A small boarded opening is located on the far right.
