Description

Two small houses, dating back to the 17th century with alterations in the 19th century, situated on Ivy Lane, Stewkley. The original three bays of the right-hand section date to the 17th century and were altered in the 19th century, while the left-hand bay was added in the mid-19th century. The houses are built with timber framing, now refronted in brick, with a central brick bay. They have tiled roofs and brick chimneys. Number 14, the right-hand house, is a one-and-a-half-story building, featuring three paired leaded casement windows on each floor. The ground-floor windows have segmental heads, and the first-floor windows are set within gabled semi-dormers. A lean-to porch is situated between the left-hand windows, providing access to the entrance. Number 16 is a two-story, two-bay house. The older, right-hand bay has two barred wooden windows with segmental heads on the ground floor and a paired barred wooden casement above. The left-hand bay has four-pane sash windows with cambered heads and a flush-panelled door with a matching head. A 20th-century extension has been added to the left. Number 14 was the residence of Emmeline and Sylvia Pankhurst between 1912 and 1914.
