Description
The building is a house and attached dining hall for the Beacon School, formerly known as Bois Farm. It dates from the 17th century and features a timber-framed structure that was refronted in red brick during the 18th century. The building has an old tiled roof and a large brick chimney at the west end. It is two storeys high with a first-floor band, and there are two 2-light and two 3-light casement windows on each floor, with segmental arches on the ground floor.
Inside, the house retains exposed timber framing. Attached to the east is a barn, which is either 17th or 18th century, timber-framed, and weatherboarded, with an old tiled roof that continues with the house. The barn has a cart entry that is now glazed and features an outshot on the left under the main roof, which includes an inset dormer. The barn has modern windows and an interior with six bays, a single aisle on the north side, curved braces, and raking queenposts. It is currently used as the school dining hall.
