Description
Castle House is a house built between 1794 and 1813, featuring painted stucco and a hipped slate roof. It has two stucco chimneys and one dormer. The west elevation has a parapet with a cornice, while the other elevations have a band. The house is two storeys with an attic and has a square plan with three bay elevations. The entrance is on the south front, which previously had a verandah. It features a central four-panel door, with the upper two panels glazed, a central bead, and a rectangular fanlight with diagonal pattern glazing. There are French casements on each side and three sash windows on the first floor. The east and west elevations each have a flattened bow projection at the center of the ground floor, which includes a three-light French casement and ornamental wrought iron balcony railings at the parapet. A similar French window is located at the center of the first floor, with some blank window recesses. Above the center of the west elevation is a plaster plaque incised with the Rothschild monogram and motto. There is a one-storey service wing on the north side made of flint and brick with a slate roof. Inside, the house features a contemporary staircase, two marble fireplaces, and cornices.
