Description

The Corinthian Arch is a monumental arch built in 1765 by Thomas Pitt, Lord Camelford. It is located at Stowe School and serves as a prominent feature at the southern end of the vista, marking the termination of the Avenue to Buckingham. The arch is constructed of ashlar stone and features giant Corinthian pilasters on either side of the central arched opening, topped with a balustraded parapet. Low quadrant walls connect to flanking columns on podia that support urns. The arch also contains two dwelling houses within its structure.
