Description

Chilton Park Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates back to the 16th century, with additions from the 18th century. It is constructed of timber framing with brick infill and features 18th-century brick additions. The building has old tile roofs and consists of two storeys and an attic, with a basement located under the southwest corner due to a sharp drop in the land. The layout is in a letter T shape, with an 18th-century infill range on the northeast side.

The south side of the east range has a four-panel door, while the windows are mostly 18th-century box sashes and 19th-century casements, with a few modern replacements. The south gable elevation of the west range features a large stack with a lower part made of rubble stone, which has tumbled brickwork at the sloping offset, and an upper part in brick topped with three diamond flues. The west elevation includes a small central gabled projection and an additional stack to the left, made of brick with a step and weathering, also surmounted by two diamond flues. The 18th-century block has a hipped east gable, and there is another stack on the east gable. The west elevation has been partially refaced in 18th and 19th-century brick.

Inside, the first floor contains some reset panelling and several 16th-century doors. The house was originally built as a lodge following the enclosure of 140 acres to form Chilton Park around 1544, before 1607.
