Description
Chartridge Lodge is a large house built around 1900-1910 by Sir Aston Webb. The lower part is constructed of red brick, while the upper part is finished in painted roughcast. It features a hipped tiled roof with a parapet and cornice, along with three-light dormer windows that have hipped roofs. The house has large chimney stacks located on the flank walls, which are adorned with arcaded panelling.
The elevation facing the road includes projecting wings at each end. The left wing has an entrance in a tile-hung gable, featuring a three-bay Doric colonnade, a cushion frieze, and a pediment above the projecting centre. Behind this is a six-panel door. The central recessed section has five first-floor windows that are cross casements with panelled architraves and flat cornice heads, linked by a string course of similar design. The ground floor displays irregular windows, including three large projecting square bays and a small semicircular arched half-glazed door near the centre. The right projection has a garage door on the ground floor, with a tile-hung gable that contains a lunette window above. Adjacent to this is a second garage block featuring an ornamental plaster detail in the gable. At the rear of the house is a small 18th-century cottage that has been altered and incorporated into the larger structure.
The left flank elevation (north) showcases three gables and a large canted bay window on the first floor, along with a colonnaded ground floor projection. The left side has three open bays, while the right side has three bays, each featuring a tall shallow bow window. Modern extensions at the rear are not considered of special interest.
