Description

Moat Farmhouse is a house dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the early 19th century and later. The original northern walls and the eastern gable feature some timber framing, with the gable having thin brick infill. The southern front was rebuilt in brick in the early 19th century, with the left bay constructed of some vitreous brick. It has an offset brick plinth, a first-floor band course, and dentil eaves. The roof is covered with old tiles, and there is a chimney between the left bays with grouped shafts made of thin brick and an offset head. A large external brick chimney is located to the right.

The house is two storeys high with an attic and consists of three bays. The outer bays have three-light leaded casements, with the right bay's windows being older and those on the ground floor featuring segmental heads. The centre bay has a 20th-century two-storey canted bay window, and there is an old two-light leaded casement with a segmental head between the right bays. A late 19th-century gabled brick porch is situated between the left bays, and there is a small lean-to to the right. The left side was rebuilt in the late 19th century using red and white chequer brick.

The northern front includes a low gabled 19th-century brick projection to the left with paired leaded casements, a central lean-to with a three-light leaded casement and door, and a gabled wing to the right with lean-to extensions to the left and front. The front lean-to has a slate roof and a row of leaded casements for the dairy, with a three-light barred wooden casement above. Inside, the house features stop-chamfered cross beams in the eastern bay and wind-braces in the roof.
