Description
No. 29 High Street is a house dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the late 18th century and later. It is constructed of red and vitreous brick in English bond, featuring a moulded plinth and modillion eaves. The roof is covered with old tiles, and there are brick chimneys located to the left and between the right bays. The building has two storeys and three bays.
On the first floor, there are three-light wooden casements, while the ground floor left bays contain paired barred wooden casements with top lights and gauged heads. The right bay features an early 20th-century shop window with a cornice, deep frieze, and a central bow. Between the right bays, there is a 20th-century door framed with an architrave and topped with a flat hood.
Inside, some timber framing is visible, with the partition between the left bays made of substantial timbers, likely once part of the exterior wall. The fireplace between the right bays has a stop-chamfered lintel, and the central room contains a heavily chamfered spine beam. Additionally, there is a late 19th-century arched open cupboard with shaped shelves in the left room. This building is included for its group value.
