Description

28 and 30 High Street is a house and shop located in Whitchurch. Number 28 dates back to the early 17th century and has been altered over time. The upper storey features timber framing with brick infill, including some herringbone patterns. The right gable is similar but has been extensively restored in the 20th century. The ground floor was rebuilt in brick during the 19th to 20th centuries, with the right bay underbuilt and the left bay jettied on beam ends. The building has an old tile roof and a central brick chimney with pilasters, along with another brick chimney to the right. It is two storeys high and has two bays. The 20th-century windows are three-light barred wooden casements, with a small paired leaded casement in the centre of the first floor. Below the upper left window, there is a brick panel with a moulded brick sill and moulded brickwork that forms a simple open pediment with diamond finials over the lower window. A 20th-century door to the left of the right bay features a flat wooden hood on brackets.

Number 30 has a 19th-century brick front and an old tile roof, standing two storeys high with one bay of three-light barred wooden casements. There is a flush panelled door to the right, also with a similar hood. The rear wing of this bay incorporates a late medieval structure, featuring one cruck truss and an inserted stone chimney stack.
