Description

Dam Side Cottage, likely built in the early 19th century, is a house accompanied by an outbuilding dated 1835. The structure is made of limestone rubble, with the house being whitewashed and featuring gritstone dressings and graduated stone slate roofs. The house has two storeys and two bays, and it is attached to a barn belonging to Dam Side House. The outbuilding, which projects to the right, has a single bay and is also two storeys high.

The house features a central glazed door set in a plain stone surround, with sash windows that have glazing bars, all framed by plain stone surrounds. The first-floor windows likely have raised lintels, and the ground floor jambs include iron fittings for shutter hinges. There are stone gutter brackets and a stack located to the right.

The outbuilding has quoins and double board doors for the cart entrance on the right, which is topped with a cambered arch and stressed quoins on the jambs. Above the arch, there is a date plaque inscribed with "1835". To the left and above the arch, there are sashes with glazing bars set in slightly projecting stone surrounds, along with plain stone gutter brackets. The interior was not inspected during the resurvey. This listing is included for its group value with Dam Side House and the barn.
