Description
The Old Hall is a house dating from the early to mid-17th century, constructed of coursed grey and brown limestone rubble with some rendering and gritstone dressings, topped with graduated stone slates. It has two storeys and five bays, situated on a sloping site where the foundations are exposed, featuring a flat stone plinth to the right of bay 2. The building includes quoins and a glazed door in bay 2, which has chamfered quoined jambs and a triangular door head, with the lintel having been renewed.
The windows throughout are recessed and chamfered mullion types. Bay 1 has a four-light window on the ground floor and a similar restored window above. Bay 2 features a possibly inserted two-light window above the door, while to the right of the door is a ground floor two-light window with a missing mullion and a narrow segmental-headed window above. Bay 3 has a four-light mullion and transom window on the ground floor, along with a four-light window above, both displaying hollow mouldings on the chamfers. Bay 4 mirrors the fenestration of bay 3, and the original windows have returned hood moulds. Below the eaves to the left of the bay 4 window, there is a row of ten pigeon holes. The house has four plain chimney stacks located at each gable and between bays 1 and 2, and 3 and 4.
At the rear, there is a central 20th-century glazed door with a triangular door head and a two-light mullioned window to the right. The remaining openings are small square chamfered types, with an inserted 20th-century window to the right. The left return features a two-light mullioned window on the first floor to the left, with one mullion restored. The right return has a ground floor two-light mullioned window and a blocked three-light mullioned window in the gable. Inside, the central room has panelling with moulded framing.
