Description

The Green is a house located in Kettlewell, dating from the mid 17th century with early 18th-century alterations and 20th-century restoration. It is built from coursed limestone rubble with gritstone dressings and features a graduated stone slate roof. The building has two storeys and three bays.

On the far left, there is a former door that has been converted into a window, which features a shallow pointed arch with the initials "H H" in relief in the right spandrel, along with a recessed panel whose date is not legible. To the left of the second and third bays, there are modern glazed doors in plain surrounds. The windows are arranged randomly, including three-light flat-faced mullioned windows with moulded architraves on both the ground and first floors to the left, a narrow window with reused stone surrounds to the right of the central door on both floors, and another three-light window with a recessed and chamfered surround on the far right of the first floor.

The house has a large corniced stack on the left gable and a smaller stack on the far right. At the rear, there is a two-light mullioned window on both the ground and first floors to the left. The left return features a narrow round-headed window on the ground floor to the right and a blocked rectangular window above. The date 1657 is recorded, along with the initials "I T" in the left-hand spandrel. The extensive alterations and two inserted doorways indicate that this property was likely converted into three cottages for lead miners in the 18th century.
