Description
Wharfe Gate is a house located on Church Lane in Burnsall, dating from the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries. It is constructed of ashlar, with coursed squared stone and a graduated stone slate roof. The building has two storeys and three bays, featuring quoins.
The entrance includes a glazed 20th-century door set within a plain stone surround that has a moulded stone pediment, positioned to the left of the right-hand bay. This entrance is flanked by recessed two-light, flat-faced mullioned windows. The left-hand bay contains a two-light casement window in a 17th-century chamfered surround, complete with a hoodmould, and above it is a stone tablet surrounded on three sides by a hoodmould.
On the first floor, there are two-light casement windows in plain stone surrounds. The building is adorned with double modillions and features end stacks with moulded cornices. At the rear, there is a notable five-light chamfered mullioned window with a hoodmould.
