Description
The Hermitage is a former vicarage, now a house, with attached outbuildings and railings, dating from the early to mid-18th century. The building is constructed of rubble with stone slate roofs and features wrought-iron railings. The house is two storeys high and has a façade with three main sections, five windows in the central part, and two additional bays to the right that are slightly recessed. The central entrance features a six-panel door set in a quoined ashlar surround, complete with a moulded arris, keyed lintel, and cornice. The windows are sash style with glazing bars, projecting sills, and stone lintels on the first floor.
The outbuilding to the left has board-leaved garage doors on the ground floor, flanked by single-light double-chamfered windows, and two-light double-chamfered mullion windows on the first floor. The outbuilding has shaped kneelers and moulded ashlar coping. To the right, part of the outbuilding is incorporated into the house, featuring paired doorways with chamfered ashlar surrounds and impost blocks, one with a part-glazed door and the other with a board door. There is also a 16-pane sash window in an ashlar surround and two blocked vents on the first floor.
In front of the house, there is a low ashlar wall that ends with square ashlar piers topped with conical caps. The railings are adorned with fleur-de-lys finials and include a matching central gate with cast-iron baluster standards.
