Description
Staverton Lea Farmhouse is a former vicarage, now a house, built between 1819 and 1824. It is said to incorporate part of an earlier house and features a mid to late 20th-century verandah. The building is rendered to look like ashlar, with roughcast on the left return, and has a slate roof.
The farmhouse is a three-window square block with lower two-window service wings, all two storeys high. The left return, which faces the garden, has a terrace and an open verandah supported by four iron poles, with a corrugated perspex hipped roof. Behind the verandah, there are double French doors on each side, accessed by one stone step, with small panes of glass; between these doors is a blind window recess. Above, there are 6-pane sash windows at each end and a blind window recess in the centre. The roof features wide eaves, a pyramid shape, and an external chimney on the left return, with a central chimney below the apex.
On the entrance front, there is a plinth with a blind opening to the left, and a 2-light casement window that matches the French doors on the left return, but with a sill and no steps. The entrance has a four-panel door, which is reached by two stone steps, flanked by sidelights and topped with a 3-light rectangular window, each light featuring a St Andrew's cross. The entrance is sheltered by a heavy Doric single-storey porch, which has knotted wreaths on the frieze and a moulded cornice. Above the porch, there is a blind wider opening with two 16-pane sash windows, wide eaves, and a pyramid roof.
To the right, the lower wing is slightly set back, with a plinth, a 4-pane sash window on the ground floor, and a 16-pane sash window on the first floor, which has a lower iron railing in front. This wing also has a hipped roof and a large chimney behind. Staverton Lea Farmhouse forms a group with the nearby Church and Old Manor.
