Description

Lower Court Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 16th to 17th century, with later alterations in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building features rendered walls on a two-and-a-half storey wing, except for the right end, which is made of random rubble stone. The gable is constructed of Sussex-bond brick, and there is timber-framing with rendered panels. The roof is slate.

The farmhouse has a three-bay, two-and-a-half storey range with a single-bay, one-and-a-half storey wing that forms an 'L' shape, along with a single bay extension. Facing the road, there is a single-light 20th-century metal window, and above it, the outline of a doorway is visible, with render extending over a pilaster surround. A ridge chimney is located at the left gable.

On the right return, there are two three-light stone mullioned windows with hollow chamfers, separated by a triangular brick buttress. Above these, there are two three-light wooden casement windows with timber lintels. The gable has been rebuilt in the 20th century with brick, and there is a three-light casement window with a timber lintel in the attic. A chimney is situated low down on the right slope near the gable.

To the right, there is a timber-framed wing, which has framing with two panels high per floor on the other side but is largely obscured by projections. A single-storey wing on the left features a two-light casement window with small panes and a cambered brick head in the gable. A lean-to with a catslide roof is set back on the right and is not fully visible. There is an angled chimney breast on the corner of the timber-framed block, rendered low down and gathered to a square brick stack above. The entrance is located in the angle between the wings. The interior has not been inspected. The farmhouse forms a group with a nearby barn.
