Description

Boddington House is a Grade II listed building located in Boddington Village, constructed in 1840 for John Arkell, as indicated by the datestone. Originally a farmhouse, it has been altered in the late 20th century. The building features Flemish bond brickwork and a slate roof, with a three-bay front and three storeys, likely consisting of three rooms in depth, with a lower wing at the back.

The house has an ashlar plinth and rubbed brick arches above all windows. The central entrance consists of a six-panel door, with the top four panels glazed, accessed by one stone step. Above the door is a rectangular light with marginal lights, all sheltered by a single-storey porch with a flat roof supported by two stone Doric columns and matching pilasters. The porch also features a frieze, a projecting moulded cornice, and a plain blocking course above.

On either side of the entrance are 16-pane sash windows. A plain string course runs above these windows, continuing into the porch. The first floor has 16-pane sash windows on each side and a 12-pane window in the center. The second floor features similar windows but shallower in design. The building has wide eaves with a plain string course just below, a hipped roof, and a chimney positioned from the eaves on the left, with two additional chimneys from the ridge on the right. Boddington House forms a group with the nearby church.
