Description

The Gloucester Old Spot is an inn dating from the 18th century and 19th century, originally marked as the old White Swan on the 6-inch Ordnance Survey map. It features painted brick construction and a red tile roof with brick stacks. The building has a rectangular plan consisting of two parallel ranges, with the 18th-century range at the rear and the 19th-century range at the front.

The front range has two 19th-century extensions with canted bay windows that project forward to the right and left of a centrally placed entrance. There is a small extension to the left of the left-hand bay. The main body of the building is two storeys high with an attic, which is lit by two 2-light eaves dormers. The symmetrical facade has three windows, featuring 12-pane sashes with horns set within surrounds that have cambered arched heads. The entrance consists of a central 20th-century part-glazed door with a projecting flat 20th-century hood above it.

The left-hand extension is lit by four-pane sashes, while the right-hand bay has canted windows with 20th-century steel casements that include glazing bars. A single-storey extension to the left of the right-hand canted bay is also lit by 20th-century steel casements with glazing bars. The gable ends of the 19th-century range have projecting stacks, and the 18th-century range features lateral stacks and a brick dentil cornice along its rear wall. The inn was formerly known as Piff's Elm, named after the publican Piff, and later as the White Swan Inn, which is known to have existed on the site since 1755. The interior has not been inspected.
