Description

This K6 telephone kiosk was designed in 1935 by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott. It is a standardised design constructed from cast iron, painted red overall, with long horizontal glazing in the doors and sides. Applied crowns, not perforated, are situated on the top panels. Rectangular white display signs reading "TELEPHONE" are positioned beneath the shallow curved roof. The interior contains modernised telephone equipment.

The kiosk stands on the western side of the B6160 road, against the north east gable of the Olde Institute, in the centre of Starbotton village. It is situated close to three other Grade II listed buildings: Beck Side, approximately 65 metres to the north; Coates Lane Farmhouse, approximately 41 metres to the north-east, and the Post House, approximately 12 metres to the south. The telephone kiosk has a notable visual connection with these surrounding listed buildings.
