Description
North House, High Houses is a former house and barn combined under one roof, dating from 1673. At the time of the survey, it was in a ruinous condition. The building is constructed of rubble with the remains of a stone slate roof. It has two storeys and features three first-floor openings for the house. The structure has a boulder plinth.
The house has a central wide doorway with a slab lintel and a crude hood-mould. On the ground floor to the left, there is a blocked two-light chamfered mullion window, with the mullion removed, and a crude hood-mould above it. To the right, there is an opening for a sash window. On the first floor, from the left, there are the remains of a two-light chamfered mullion window, a three-light chamfered mullion window, and another opening for a sash window. There is a stack to the right.
The barn, located to the left of the house, has one opening on each floor. The rear elevation of the house features a lean-to extension on the left, above a doorway with a moulded chamfered surround and a four-centred arched head, which has "PA 1673" inscribed on the lintel. The rear elevation of the barn has a fine doorway with rebated arris on each floor.
