Description
Pratts House, located at High Houses, is a Grade II listed building that consists of two houses now combined into one. It dates from the late 17th century to the early 18th century and features elements from the late 18th century as well. The structure is built of coursed rubble with a stone slate roof and has three storeys on one side and two on the other, with a total of five windows on the first floor.
The building has quoins and a central entrance with a four-panel door set in a quoined ashlar surround, topped with a decorated lintel. To the left of the entrance, there are two bays on the ground floor featuring sash windows with glazing bars, all set in chamfered ashlar surrounds. The first floor has a two-light casement window and a 15-pane fixed-light window, both formerly mullioned and also in chamfered ashlar surrounds. The second floor has six-pane fixed-light windows in chamfered ashlar surrounds. Above the door, there is a sash window with glazing bars framed by an architrave.
To the right, there are two bays with paired sash windows, also with glazing bars and set within architraves. The left side of the building has coping, while there is a corniced stack at the left end and an end stack at the right. Adjacent to the right is a lower two-storey outbuilding, which features a board door below steps leading to another board door at the first floor. The rear elevation of the house has three storeys plus a basement, showcasing two-light chamfered mullion windows and double-chamfered windows where the mullions have been removed. There is a staircase cross-window with a flat-faced mullion and transom, along with a 20th-century five-light flat-faced mullion window.
