Description

Gateside House is a small farmhouse, now a house, likely dating from the early to mid-18th century and altered since. It is constructed of mixed random rubble with quoins, and has a slate roof. The original plan probably comprised two small units, with a later large lean-to extension to the east gable. The house has two storeys and originally had two plus two windows. A stone-slate drip-course runs over the ground floor, interrupted by a wide gabled porch which is offset slightly to the right. The porch has a square-headed outer opening and an inner doorway with a panelled door, along with built-in side benches. A square six-pane window is located to the left of the porch, and a rectangular four-pane window to the right; matching two-over-two pane windows are situated above. All windows are now top-hung casements. A large square corbelled chimney is present at the left gable, featuring two bands of stone slate carried around it. A later gable chimney has been added to the right. The lean-to extension has two square four-pane windows. The rear of the property and its interior were not inspected.
